Northern Division:
The player of the week for the Northern Division is Jon Love (Kennesaw State) with the Cardinals of Front Royal who went 4-for-5 in the first game of the week against Luray. His outing included four runs, four RBI and three home runs, the most this season by any player in a single game. This past week he had nine hits in 24 at bats, giving him a .375 batting average for the week and boosted him to .311 for the year. Over the course of the week Love scored nine runs, drove in now and is now tied for the lead in home runs with five.
The pitcher of the week for the Northern Division is Jason Kiley (Florida-Gulf Coast) of the expansion Loudoun Rangers after throwing a complete game shutout on June 25 against Staunton. Kiley allowed only one walk while, gave up only three hits and fanned nine. Another key note was that he retired the leadoff hitter in every inning as he picked up the 1-0 win.
Southern Division:
The player of the week for the Southern Division is once again Kelly Edmundson (Tennessee) of the River Bandits. Edmundson had another strong week picking up eight hits in 22 at bats with two doubles, two RBI, and five runs. His totals for the season continue to rise as he’s only played 12 games, but is batting .404 with 21 hits, seven doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI while striking out only seven times.
The pitcher of the week for the Southern Division is Josh Schwartz (Rowan) with the Waynesboro Generals’ ball club. On June 22, Schwartz pitched nine and a third innings while allowing only six hits, one run, one walk and struck out 12. Schwartz is now 1-1 on the year and has a 2.35 ERA. He has a total of 28 strikeouts and has only allowed six runs in three starting appearances.
