The Front Royal Cardinals have hired Mike Smith to be its head coach for 2025. Smith was head coach this past season for the Winchester Royals.
With 18 years of experience in the Valley Baseball League (VBL) and a remarkable track record of success, Coach Smith brings an unparalleled depth of knowledge and expertise to our organization.
Coach Smith’s career in the VBL is distinguished by his development of more than 80 players who went on to be drafted into Major League Baseball. His roles within the VBL have been diverse, serving as Field Manager, Assistant Coach, and General Manager. His impressive resume also includes serving as an Associate Scout for the Kansas City Royals from 2008-2015 and coaching at Shenandoah University under the legendary Head Coach Kevin Anderson.
In addition to his VBL experience, Coach Smith has an extensive background in high school baseball, currently serving as the Head Coach for the Clarke County High School Eagles in Berryville, VA. His 30-year high school coaching career is decorated with numerous accolades, including being named Bull Run and Northern Virginia Daily Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2003, Region B Coach of the Year in 2003, and Winchester Star Coach of the Year in 2001, 2003, and 2018. Coach Smith has also been honored with four selections to coach in the prestigious Mid-Atlantic Baseball All-Star Game.
