The USA Signs Pitcher of the Week is Staunton’s Miles Hellums!
Hellums, a 6-foot-3 righthander from San Jacinto, dominated in his two relief outings in the past seven days. In seven innings, he allowed no hits and no runs, walked one, and struck out seven. He saved one of the games and won the other. In his first outing of the week, he threw a perfect four innings against the Harrisonburg Turks- 12 up, 12 down. For the summer so far, there really haven’t been many relievers to match his stats: he’s 2-0, 1.14, with the one save. In 15 2/3 innings, he’s allowed only four hits (!) and six walks, while striking out 22.
For San Jacinto this spring, he went 2-2, 3.91 in 23 innings, with 16 hits, nine walks, and 27 K’s.
