Strasburg 9, Purcellville 5

How it happened: Strasburg scored three runs in the sixth to take the lead and held on for a 9-5 win over Purcellville. With the win, the Express moved into first place in the North, Eduardo Castillo (San Jacinto) led off the sixth with a homer and Cade Carr (Samford) added a sac fly.

Express Highlights: Tait Nunnally (Eastern Kentucky) was 2-for-3 and Brandon Burkel (Indiana) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Randy Carlo IV (Maryland was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and Castillo was 3-for-4 with two solo home runs. Angelo Prieto (Samford) also homered for the Express. Preston Rogers (Florida Gulf Coast) did not allow a hit in three innings and struck out five batters. Gavin Lill (Pittsburgh) earned the save, allowing just one hit in two shutout innings. He struck out four and walked one.

Cannons Highlights: Shintaro Inoue (Kansas State) drove in two runs.

Front Royal 8, Woodstock 2

How it happened: Front Royal scored six runs in the sixth inning, turning a 2-1 lead into a seven-run cushion.

Cardinals Highlights: Rueben Livingston (Harford) was 3-for-4 with a run batted in. Jimmy King (Holy Cross) was 2-for-4 with a run batted in and Kyle Koehler (Cuyahoga) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Oliver Ellison (Coastal Carolina) was the winning pitcher, going five innings and allowing one run on six hits. He struck out five and walked one. Sabien Rivera (Harford) pitched three innings and allowed one unearned run on one hit.

River Bandits Highlights: Preston Joye (Mercer) was 3-for-3.

Winchester 8, New Market 5

How it happened: Winchester scored four times in the eighth inning to take a 6-5 lead and then added two more in the ninth inning to finish off the win. Marshall Lipsey (Florida Atlantic) had the big hit in the eighth inning with a three-run double. Austin Lafferty (Akron) and Jayson Gonzalez (Iona) provided the insurance with run-scoring hits in the ninth.

Royals Highlights: Lafferty finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a run batted in. Vincent Dolcemaschio (Baldwin-Wallace) pitched three shutout innings, allowing just one hit. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.

Rebels Highlights: Kyle Musser (Cornell) was 2-for-4. Ty Stecko (Mount St. Mary’s) homered and drove in three runs. Blaine Waltimyer (Penn St.-Harrisburg) drove in a pair of runs. Shawn Mannering (Pitt-Bradford) pitched six solid innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He struck out five and walked one.
