Charlottesville 11, Covington 2
How it happened: The Tom Sox jumped out to a 7-1 lead after two innings and cruised to the 11-2 win over the Jacks. Charlottesville scored four runs in the first inning on just one hit. After Covington scored a run in the top of the second, the Tom Sox added three runs in the bottom of the second on two hits, one a run-scoring single by Tommy Roldan (Virginia).
Tom Sox Highlights: Roldan finished the game 3-for-5 with a homer and five RBIs. Ryan Wynn (Wofford) was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored.
Lumberjacks Highlights: Jackson Toberman (St. Johns River) was 2-for-4 and Kaleb Henry (Georgia Southwestern) added a homer for Covington.
Staunton 9, Harrisonburg 7
How it happened: Staunton took advantage of three Turks errors to score six runs in the fourth innings, erasing a 4-1 deficit. Jake D’Altrui (New Orleans) had a two-run single in the fourth. The Turks trailed 9-5 entering the bottom of the ninth and a two-run homer by Ethan Murdoch (Marshall) trimmed the margin to 9-7. The Turks loaded the bases after Murdoch’s blast, but Braves closer Nate Ward (Florida Southwestern) retired the final batter on a pop foul to record his fourth save of the season.
Braves Highlights: D’Altrui finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Tai Lizdas (Milligan) pitched three shutout innings before give up the ninth-inning homer to Murdoch.
Turks Highlights: Anthony Paskell (Rider) was 4-for-6 with two runs scored one batted in. Chris Katz (Wake Forest) was 2-for-5 with a run batted in and Murdoch finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
Culpeper 14, Waynesboro 8
How it happened: Culpeper led 12-5 after four innings and coasted to the 14-8 victory. Trailing 2-0, the Cavaliers scored four in the second to take the lead. Eric Correa (Rice) plated two runs with a single and Ryan Storey (South Alabama) added a run-scoring hit. Culpeper added five more in the third, highlighted by Zaine Toneski’s (St. John’s) grand slam homer.
Cavaliers Highlights: Storey finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Connor Maryniak (Misericordia) was 3-for-5 with a run batted in. Toneske finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Correa was 2-for-5 with a run batted in. Bryce Demory (Lynchburg) was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs.
Generals Highlights: Cole Hales (Catawba) was 2-for-5. Elijah Borjas (Colorado State-Pueblo) was 4-for-5. Kyle Neri (Rider) was 2-for-5. Sean Shelly (Barry) pitched three shutout innings and did not allow a hit.
