Purcellville 10, New Market 5
How it happened: Purcellville blanked New Market over the final five inning to pull away for the 10-5 win. The Cannons snapped a 5-5 tie on Bear Madliak’s (Jacksonville State) two-run single in the fifth, making the score 7-5.
Cannons Highlights: Madliak finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Shintaro Inoue (Kansas State) was 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs. Kaleb Freeman (Auburn) was 2-for-2 with four walks, four runs scored and three RBIs. Mitsuki Kohno (Christian Brothers) was 2-for-5. Aiden Adams (San Jacinto) pitched five innings in relief and got the win. He allowed one run on two hits while striking out six and walking two. Zach Duenas pitched the final two innings and did not allow a hit. He struck out four and walked one.
Rebels Highlights: Gaetan Grandelli (West Chester) was 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Zachary Walsh (UNC-Greensboro) was 2-for-5.
Front Royal 8, Winchester 5
How it happened: The Cardinals broke a 5-5 tie with two runs in the seventh inning to take the win.
Cardinals Highlights: Broedy Poppell (Florida A&M) was 2-for-5 with a run batted in. Rueben Livingston (Harford) was 2-for-5 with a solo home run. Ryan Sellers (Virginia-Wise) pitched three innings and allowed one unearned run on three hits. Chris Campanella (Harford) earned the save.
Royals Highlights: Jack Mosh (Minnesota) and Connor McGinnis (Houston) were both 2-for-3 for the Royals.
Strasburg 5, Woodstock 4
How it happened: Strasburg tied the game with a run in the eighth inning and then pushed across the winning run in the ninth. Miles Curley (College of Central Florida) tied the score with a single in the eighth inning and Kyle Edwards (ODU) put the Express ahead with a solo homer in the ninth. Four Strasburg pitchers – Logan Waldschmidt (Pasco-Hernando), Hayden Fravel (Lebanon Valley), Carson Rea (Panola) and Will Hummel (Pittsburgh) – combined to hold the River Bandits scoreless over the final five innings.
Express Highlights: Edwards finished the night 2-for-5. Curley drove in two runs,
River Bandits Highlights: Preston Joye (Mercer) was 3-for-3 and Luke Keister (Shenandoah) was 3-for-5. Ryan Zuckerman (Pittsburgh) homered for Woodstock.
