Staunton 5, Waynesboro 4

How it happened: Noah Canterbury (Fairmont State) delivered a two-run single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth as the Staunton Braves walked off the Waynesboro Generals 5-4.

Braves Highlights: Canterbury finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Mason McDowell (Lynchburg) was the winning pitcher, going two shutout innings and allowing just one hit.  Tim Dickinson (St. Joseph’s) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Generals Highlights: Cesar Morillo (St. Andrews) and Elijah Borjas (Colorado State-Pueblo) were both 2-for-4. Bentley Yeatts (Longwood) was 2-for-3 with a run batted in. Matthew Sheppard (Ferrum) pitched three innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits. Starting pitcher Bryce Metts (Southern Wesleyan) worked five innings and allowed just one run on four hits.

Covington 9, Harrisonburg 1

How it happened: Three Covington pitchers combined to limit the Turks to one unearned run on three hits. Covington took the lead for good with three runs in the third. Jackson Toberman (St. Johns River) and Chenar Brown (Louisiana Monroe) provided run-scoring hits in the third inning.

Lumberjacks Highlights: Six Lumberjacks – Thomas Marsala (Hinds CC), Toberman, Brown, Gregory Melo (Tallahassee CC), Quentin Jenkins (Alabama State)  and Spencer Williams (Carson-Newman) – finished the night with two hits. Brown had three RBIs while Melo and Jenkins added two RBIs each. Starting pitcher Matthew Irwin (East Texas Baptist) pitched 3.2 innings, allowing one unearned run on one hit. Matthew Someillan (Eastern Florida State) pitched 4.1 shutout innings to get the win. He allowed just two hits. Cesar Valera (Pasco-Hernando) worked a perfect ninth.

Charlottesville 4, Culpeper 3

How it happened: Charlottesville scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat Culpeper 4-3. With runners at first and second, Tommy Roldan (Virginia) singled in the tying run. When the ball was misplayed in the outfield, the winning run scored all the way from first base.

Tom Sox Highlights: Colby Wallace (ECU) was 2-for-4. Roldan was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Starting pitcher Pierce O’Beirne went 5-1 innings and allowed one run on two hits. Powell pitched a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts to get the save.
