How it happened: Covington’s Michael Fortes (Dayton) and Landon Lucas (College of Charleston combined to limit Staunton to two hits in the 4-1 victory. The Jacks took the lead with two runs in the fourth. Jackson Toberman (St. Johns River) walked and Chenar Brown (Louisiana Monroe) singled. Both runners moved up on a sac bunt and Toberman scored on a wild pitch for a 1-0 Covington lead. Brown scored on a groundout by Gregory Melo (Tallahassee CC) to make it 2-0.
Lumberjacks Highlights: Fortes pitched six innings and allowed one unearned run on one hit. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter. Lucas earned the save, allowing one hit and one walk in his two innings. Brown finished the game 2-for-4.
Braves Highlights: Braves starter Eli Lamb (Georgia Southern) did not allow a hit in his three innings on the mound. He struck out two and walked two.
Waynesboro 10, Charlottesville 6
How it happened: Waynesboro snapped a 3-3 tie with six runs in the fifth inning to defeat the Tom Sox. Samuel Hunter (Catawba) led off the fifth with a single and Cesar Morillo (St. Andrews) walked. Elijah Borjas (Colorado State-Pueblo) singled, scoring Hunter for a 4-3 Generals lead. Kishon Frett (FIU) followed with a three-run homer, making the score 7-3.
Generals Highlights: Hunter was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Borjas was 3-for-5 with a run batted in. Frett was 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs. Garrett Quinn (Wilmington) was the winning pitcher, going three shutout innings. He allowed three hits and struck out four.
