Due to the rainy weather only two games were played Wednesday night in the VBL

Winchester 9, New Market 8

How it happened: Winchester walked off New Market with two runs in the bottom of the ninth to win 9-8. The Rebels snapped a 7-7 tie with a run in the top of the eighth. Logan Mote (Lackawanna) walked to lead off the eight for New Market and Kevin Hager (Cornell) singled. Both runners advanced on a groundout and the Royals intentionally walked Gaetan Grandelli (West Chester) to load the bases. Jake Henry Williams (Arkansas State) was then hit by a pitch, giving the Rebels an 8-7 lead. With on out in the bottom of the ninth, Winchester’s Jaylen Hernandez (Winthrop) reached on an error and Marshall Lipsey followed with a double. With runners at second and third Connor McGinnis singled, scoring Hernandez to tie the score.

Royals Highlights: Connor McGinnis (Houston) was 3-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs. Jack Mosh (Minnesota) was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Marshall Lipsey (Florida Atlantic) was 1-for-2 with two walks and three runs scored. Jaylen Hernandez (Winthrop had a double and two RBIs. Lipsey scored the game-winning run from third on Jack Hay’s grounder.

Rebels Highlights: Chaise Albus (East Stroudsburg) was 3-for-5 with a triple and two runs scored. Luke Holland (UNC-Greensboro) was 2-for-5 with a double, a triple and two RBIs. Blaine Waltimyer (Penn St.-Harrisburg) was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Connor Reilly (East Stroudsburg) was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Mote  drove in two runs. Hager was 2-for-4. Sam Duvall (Pasco Hernando) pitched 4.1 innings and allowed two runs, both unearned, on two hits. He struck out six and walked two.

Charlottesville 5, Covington 1 (5 innings)

How it happened: The Tom Sox grabbed the lead with three runs in the second inning. Two runs scored on wild pitches and Ethan Gibson (Virginia Tech) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead. Charlottesville made it 4-0 on Sam Mummau’s (Florida) run-scoring single in the top of the third, but the Jacks got the run back in the bottom of the inning. Quentin Jenkins (Alabama State) reached on a single, stole second and took third on a wild pitch. Jenkins scored on a groundout by Spencer Williams (Carson-Newman)

Tom Sox Highlights: Colby Wallace (ECU) was 2-for-2 with a run scored. Mummau  was 1-for-2 with a run scored and a run batted in. Gibson  was 1-for-1 with a run batted in. Will Pearson (Georgia) pitched 1.1 innings and retired all four batters he faced.

Lumberjacks Highlights: Jackson was 1-for-2 with a run scored.
