The next time Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage takes the mound will be in the World Series against the Dodgers.

Yesavage made the unlikely rise from Dunedin in the Florida State League to start the season, to pitching for the Blue Jays in the postseason.

The former East Carolina star pitched in the Valley Baseball League during the 2022 season for the Charlottesville Tom Sox. The big righty’s dominant arsenal was on display that summer as he struck out 25 and walked nine in 18 innings on the mound. He posted a 1-0 record with a 2.50 ERA.

Yesavage got the call to big leagues late this season and made three starts. He pitched 14 innings, striking out 16 and walking seven with a 3.21 ERA.

In the postseason, he has been one of the Blue Jays’ best starters.

In the AL divisional series, in his first postseason start, Yesavage pitched a gem, working 5.1 no hit innings and striking out 11 vs. the N.Y. Yankees.

His next start in the ALCS against the Mariners in Game 2 didn’t go as smoothly as he allowed five runs in four innings.

But in Game 6 with the season on the line, Toronto handed the ball to their rookie and he delivered with another strong performance. Yesavage pitched 5.1 innings and allowed two runs in the 6-2 win that forced Game 7. He struck out seven and walked three.

Toronto went on to defeat the Mariners 4-3 in Game 7 to advance to the World Series against the Dodgers.

Yesavage is expected to start against the Dodgers in either Game 1 or Game 2 of the World Series.
