Five games were played on another perfect evening in the Shenandoah Valley! (That may not be the case today, though.)

Results

  • Winchester 8, New Market 7: A back-and-forth game saw a New Market rally fall just short in the ninth inning- the game ended with the bases loaded. Winchester is 2-2; New Market falls to 3-1. (I was in attendance for this one- met some really great people in the press box!)
  • Covington 3, Harrisonburg 2: The Lumberjacks scored one run in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings to overcome an excellent start by the Turks’ Mitchell Farris. The winning came in on a Nate Slocum fielder’s choice RBI. Jacks are 3-0; Turks fall to 1-2. (By the way, both missing Harrisonburg games are now finalized and included in final stats.)
  • Charlottesville 13, Staunton 8: Down 8-2 going into the bottom of the sixth, Charlottesville mounted a furious comeback, scoring six in the sixth and five in the seventh to win this one going away. The Staunton staff walked 11 in this one. Charlottesville is 1-3; Staunton is 1-2.
  • Strasburg 10, Purcellville 9: A game with eight lead changes, our second extra-inning affair also went a little crazy in extras, with the Cannons scoring three in the top of the tenth and the Express answering with four in the bottom. A scorer’s nightmare, this one saw 24 walks and 27 strikeouts spread out over 11 different pitchers, along with seven errors in the field. The game lasted almost four hours and 20 minutes! Express is now 3-1; Cannons fall to 1-3.
  • Front Royal 3, Woodstock 2: Chase Stanhope shut down the Bandits over the last four innings, and Dallas Hite brought home Connor Frost with an eighth-inning RBI groundout to put the Cards up.
