  • Charlottesville 5, Covington 2: Four Charlottesville relievers combined for 5 1/3 shutout innings while allowing only three baserunners, and the lineup worked eight walks against Lumberjack pitching. Charlottesville is 2-3; Covington falls to 3-1.
  • Staunton 7, Waynesboro 6: This one came down to bases loaded, two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but Staunton’s Marty Neal struck out Tyler Borges to save it for Staunton. Staunton’s bullpen carried the day as well, with four pitchers throwing 6 2/3 shutout innings. Staunton is 2-3; the Generals fall to 2-2.

Hitter of the Day

The hitter of the day, with no surprise, comes from New Market’s lineup; it’s Garett Wallace, from East Tennessee State. Wallace, the league’s home run and RBI leader, went 2-4, with three runs scored, a home run, walk, and three RBIs. He’s hitting a robust .348/.444/.957 in 23 at-bats so far, with seven runs, two doubles, four home runs, and 11 RBIs in six games.
