WINCHESTER – The Winchester Royals have hired Brian Burke as Manager/Head Coach for the 2025 summer season.

Burke, who has 27 years of baseball coaching experience at the high school and collegiate levels, recently stepped down as the Head Baseball Coach at Millbrook High School after 14 seasons. In his tenure, Burke led the Pioneers to five District Northwest titles, and a Regional Conference title and state runner-up in 2014.

While at Millbrook, Burke was named The Winchester Star’s Baseball Coach of the Year three times.

Burke began his coaching career in 1993 when he joined the staff at Shenandoah University as an assistant coach. He then moved to Clarke County High School as Pitching Coach for the 1998 season before taking the same position at Sherando High School, a position he held from 1999-2005.

Burke then went on to restart the baseball program as Head Coach at Highland School in Warrenton, Virginia. Burke has recorded over 200 wins as a high school head coach between Highland School and Millbrook High School.

Burke first joined the Winchester Royals organization in the summer of 2001 as an Assistant Coach before moving into the team’s baseball operations starting in 2003. Burke was with the Royals for their Valley Baseball League championship seasons of 2001, 2003 and 2004. He returned to the organization as General Manager following the 2019 season.

Burke has served as Royals’ Assistant Coach for the past two seasons, as the Royals’ General Manager since 2020, and served on the non-profit’s Board of Directors from 2022-2024.

A native of Manassas, Virginia and a graduate of Osbourn Park High School, Burke attended Shenandoah University and starred on the Hornets’ baseball team from 1987 -1991. Burke has held the position of Athletic Director at the Powhatan School, a private primary education school in Clarke County, for 24 years. Burke and his wife, April, reside in Frederick County and have three children, Haley (27), Hannah (25) and Hayden (21), and two grandchildren, 2-year-old Henry and 7-month-old Corrinne.

Burke will be joined in the Royals dugout by returning Royals Pitching Coach Scott Jenkins. Jenkins pitched at Texas Christian University and Abilene Christian and was drafted by the Kansas City Royals. He pitched for five seasons in professional baseball, served as a scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks, and was the pitching coach/recruiting coordinator at the University of Vermont. Burke and Jenkins have coached together for the Royals and at Millbrook High School for ten years, combined. Jenkins was selected to succeed Burke as the Pioneers’ Head Baseball Coach.
