Charlottesville 5, Culpeper 2 (Game 1)
Culpeper 8, Charlottesville 0 Game 2)
Culpeper and Charlottesville split a twinbill with Charlottesville winning 5-2 in the opener and Culpeper taking the second game 8-0.
In the opener, the Tom Sox took the lead with two runs in the sixth inning on run-scoring hits by Andrew Mannelly (Wofford) and Hudson Lutterman (Virginia Tech) and held off the Cavs for the win.
Mannelly was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Tanner Schaedel (ODU) added a two-run, pinch-hit homer for the Tom Sox.
Brandon Eldridge (Florida Southwestern) picked up the win with three shutout innings of relief. Eldridge allowed just one hit and struck out two.
Maxwell Molessa (West Virginia) had two hits, including a solo homer for Culpeper. Colby Motley (Wallace CC) and Luke Smith (Rice) also had two hits each for the Cavs.
Cavs’ starter Max Mousser had a strong outing, pitching five innings and allowing one run on three hits. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.
Paul Witkop (Richmond) pitched five strong innings in Culpeper’s shutout victory as the Cavaliers salvaged a split with a win in Game 2. Witkop allowed just one hit in five innings and struck out six.
Molessa was 1-for -3 and drove in two runs for Culpeper.
Staunton 4, Harrisonburg 3
The Staunton Braves rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat South Division leader Harrisonburg 4-3.
Three Staunton players combined for all 10 of the team’s base hits. Wyatt Peifer (JMU) was 4-for-5 while LT Cockrill (Delaware) was 3-for-5 and Joey Little (East Tennessee State) was 3-for-4. Peifer and Cockrill each drove in a run and Jackson Ingram (West Virginia) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Three Staunton pitchers combined to limit the Turks to one earned run. Starter Mason Tompkins (Winthrop) allowed one earned run in five innings. Parker Munday (Akron) pitched 1.2 innings and allowed one hit and struck out three. Evan Koehler (South Florida) pitched the final 2.1 innings to get the win. He allowed one hit and struck out three.
Harrisonburg starter Cannon Feazell continued his strong summer efforts, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing one unearned run on six hits. He struck out three and walked one.
Josiah Seguin (Chipola), Jackson Schrafft (North Florida), Owen Anchors (Clemson) and Ty Long (Southern Mississippi) each had two hits for the Turks. Seguin and Long each drove in one run.
Waynesboro 12, Covington 2
The Generals scored five runs in the first two innings and then ended the game with five runs in the seventh to defeat the Lumberjacks.
Gialdri Gomez (Seminole State) was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs to spark Waynesboro. Daniel Smith (Gordon College) added two hits for the Generals. Seth Buchanan (VMI and Andrew Ildefonso (FIU) each drove in two runs.
Jack Dickinson (Niagara) pitched five innings and allowed one run on three hits to get the win. He struck out two and walked two.
Winchester 13, New Market 1
Winchester scored nine runs in the third inning and coasted to a 13-1 win over the Rebels.
Todd Abraham (Binghamton) was 3-for-5 with a run batted in to lead the Royals. Jamie Padilla (Shenandoah) added two hits and two RBIs. Connor Guy (St. Johns River), Parker Frey (East Stroudsburg) and Joey Agar (Mt. Saint Mary’s) also had two hits apiece.
Vincent Salvo (Towson) turned in a strong start, pitching the first five innings, allowing just one run on four base hits. He struck out five and walked two.
Woodstock 12, Strasburg 5
Woodstock jumped out to an 8-0 lead and defeated the Express 12-5.
Jordan Evans (Mississippi College) and JT Anderosky (DeSales) each had two hits for Woodstock.
Brixton Lofgren (Miami) got the win, pitching five innings. He allowed one run on two hits. He struck out six and walked two. Zane Starling (North Florida) pitched 2.2 innings and allowed just one hit while striking out six.
Topher Jones (Pearl River) was 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs for Strasburg. Tanner Hardin (Wofford) was 2-for-4 with a run batted in.
Purcellville 6, Front Royal 3
The Cannons scored three runs in the sixth inning to snap a 3-3 tie and defeat Front Royal 6-3. Anthony Fernandez (St. Bonaventure) delivered the key hit with a two-run single. Fernandez was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and three RBIs.
Acevedo (Indian Hills CC), Carlos Sanchez (Florida Southwestern), Gerardo Prado (Oklahoma) and Thomas Marsala (Western Kentucky) each added a pair of base hits for the Cannons.
Nick Staszak (Santa Fe) picked up the win with a strong relief effort. Staszak pitched 2.1 scoreless innings and allowed just one hit. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.
Darryl Lee (Bethune-Cookman) homered for Front Royal.
