Charlottesville 10, Waynesboro 2
How it happened: Waynesboro got on the board in the top of the first to lead 1-0 but Charlottesville scored three in the bottom of the first to take the lead for good. David Wiley (Wofford) and Ryan Wynn (Wofford) had run-scoring hits. The Tom Sox broke the game open with four runs in the fifth, highlighted by Wiley’s three-run homer, to lead 7-1.
Tom Sox Highlights: Wofford teammates Wiley and Wynn each finished 2-for-4 with Wiley driving in four runs and Wynn two. Starting pitcher Trevor Booten (Auburn) went four innings and allowed two hits and no earned runs. He struck out two and walked one. Brett Gastman (Charleston Southern) went three hitless innings with five strikeouts.
Harrisonburg 7 Culpeper 4
How it happened: Harrisonburg scored four runs in the bottom of the first and held on for the 7-4 victory. Luke Hatcher (West Georgia) and Cam Harris (Wingate) had run-scoring singles for the Turks in the first inning. The Turks added four more runs in the fourth to lead 7-1.
Turks Highlights: The Turks finished with 11 hits, two each by Jacob Green (Seminole State), Hatcher, Harris, Jack Cannizzaro (MU) and Matthew Delgado (Rogers State). Payton Waters (Central Florida) was the winning pitcher. He went five innings and allowed one run on four hits. He struck out six and walked one.
Cavaliers Highlights: Bennett Fryman (Arizona State) and Caden Christman (Rutgers-New Brunswick) had two hits each,
Staunton 13, Covington 3
How it happened: Staunton scored 12 runs in the first three innings to roll past the Lumberjacks. A run-scoring single by Cameron Cole (Radford) helped the Braves take a 2-0 lead after one inning. The Braves added three more in the second, highlighted by Tim Dickinson’s (St. Joseph’s) RBI-double. Staunton tacked on seven more runs in the third with Gage Bibey’s (St. Bonaventure) grand slam homer the key blow.
Braves Highlights: Jacob Lester (Trevecca Nazarene) was 2-for-4 with four runs scored and one run batted in. Every hitter in the starting lineup had a hit for the Braves. Bibey had four RBIs and Noah Canterbury (Fairmont State) had three RBIs. Eli Lamb (Georgia Southern) allowed two hits and struck out four in 2.1 innings on the mound. Hunter Jones (Florida) went 3.2 innings and allowed two hits. He struck out on and walked one.
Lumberjacks Highlights: Gregory Melo (Tallahassee CC) was 2-for-3 with one run batted in.
