Each week during the regular season, the Valley League will honor an outstanding hitter and pitcher with the “Signs USA” award, chosen by the league’s SMRD.
This week, the 2022 inaugural Pitcher of the Week award goes to Harrisonburg’s Evan Smith, who, in his second appearance of the week, fired a very rare complete game shutout against Charlottesville, allowing only two hits and two walks, while striking out two. He accomplished the feat in 98 pitches. The righthander from JMU went 1-0, 0.00 in 12 total innings in the first week, with five hits and four walks allowed.
