How It Happened: Charlottesville’s Robbie Lavey (George Washigton) hit a two-run homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth as the Tom Sox walked off the Generals 3-2.
Tom Sox Highlights: Chase Stryker (Coastal Carolina) pitched 4.1 innings and allowed three hits and one unearned run. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter. Ethan Sutton (Georgia) pitched 2.1 innings and did not allow a hit while striking out four. Colby Wallace (ECU) pitched a scoreless top of the ninth and got the win.
Generals Highlights: Giovannia Arzuaga (Boston College) allowed one hit and one unearned run in six innings. He struck out five and walked two. Matthew Sheppard (Ferrum) and Ryan Cleary (St. Andrews) each pitched one scoreless inning.
Covington 14, Staunton 1
How It Happened: Spencer Williams (Carson-Newman) hit a two-run homer in the first and Kaleb Henry (Georgia Southwestern State) added a pair of home runs as the Lumberjacks pounded Staunton 14-1.
Lumberjacks Highlights: Williams finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Henry was 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Jose Alfonso (Eastern Central) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one run batted in. Thomas Marsala (Hinds CC) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a run batted in. Quentin Jenkins (Alabama State) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Daniel Castillo (Pasco Hernando) was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a run batted in. Michael Fortes (Dayton) pitched four shutout innings and allowed just three hits. Garrett Larner (Luna CC) pitched three innings and allowed one run on two hits.
Braves Highlights: AJ Wenrich was 2-for-4 with a double and a homer. The homer was his VBL-leading sixth of the season. Wyat Campbell (Florida Southern) was 2-for-3.
Harrisonburg 9, Culpeper 8
How It Happened: The Turns powered to a 9-5 lead on homers by Luke Hatcher (West Georgia), Jose Perez (Rollins) and Chris Katz (Wake Forest) and then held off a ninth-inning Culpeper rally to win 9-8. Perez and Katz each homered in the top of the ninth to put the Turks up 9-5. Jon Howard’s (Mt. Olive) one-out single in the bottom of the ninth pulled the Cavs to within 9-6 and a two-run double by Bennett Fryman (Arizona State) made it a one-run game. Jackson Rusiecki (UNC) singled to move Fryman to third before the Turks recorded the final two outs to seal the win.
Turks Highlights: Perez finished 2-for-2 with three walks, a solo homer, two stolen bases and four runs scored. Katz was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Hatcher was 2-for-4 with four RBIs.
Cavaliers Highlights: Connor Maryniak (Misericordia) was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one run batted in. Howard finished 2-for-5 with a run scored and one run batted in. Fryman was 3-for-5 with a homer, double and five RBIs. Ryan Peterson (VMI) was 2-for-5 with a solo homer.
