It’s difficult to keep up with former Valley Leaguers in pro ball while the current VBL season is underway, but sometimes a performance is too good to miss.

That happened last night, of course, when former Charlottesville righthander Carson Spiers had a fantastic outing for Double-A Chattanooga, in Cincinnati’s system. Spiers threw 5 2/3 innings, and allowed only one hit, no runs, didn’t walk anyone, and struck out eight. Overall this season, he’s 0-1, 4.32 after 10 starts and 50 innings, while allowing 49 hits, 17 walks, and striking out 51.

Spiers pitched in two games for Charlottesville in the summer of 2017, covering 6 2/3 innings. Perhaps he’ll be joining former Waynesboro General Graham Ashcraft in the majors soon?
