Strasburg’s Kyle Edwards (Old Dominion) is the VBL North Division Player of the Week and Front Royal’s Sabien Rivera (Harford) is the Pitcher of the Week.
Edwards had a huge week at the plate, hitting .478 (11-for-23) with six extra-base hits, three doubles and three homers. The Express infielder scored eight runs and drove in eight runs. He had his best game of the week in a 12-2 win over New Market, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, a homer, two runs scored, three RBIs and a stolen base.
Rivera made three relief appearances during the week and picked up one save. He pitched a total of six innings and did not allow an earned run. He gave up four hits and struck out four batters. Opponents hit .182 against the Cardinals reliever.
Other Hitters Nominated:
New Market: Gaetan Grandelli (West Chester) was 7-for-19 (.368 average) with a double, home run, and four RBIs.
Woodstock: Jackson Cherry (Virginia Tech) was 3-for-10 in three games and all three of his hits were homers. He scored six runs and drove in six runs.
Front Royal: Kyle Koehler (Cuyahoga CC) hit .500 (7-for-14) with two homers and 10 RBIs.
Other Pitchers Nominated:
Strasburg: Gavin Lill (Pittsburgh) made two appearances and earned one save. He allowed two hits in three shutout innings. Lill struck out six and walked one. Opponents hit .167 against the Express reliever.
New Market: Dylan Sattazahn (Penn St.-Harrisburg) made two appearances and pitched six innings. He allowed two earned runs on just one hit. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.
