Covington 5, Staunton 4
Staunton defeated Covington 7-0 on Saturday in the completion of a suspended game. The Braves led 2-0 after two innings when the game was suspended.
Matthew Lefevers (Radford) pitched the first two innings of the game and then went back to the mound for the completion of the game on Saturday. Lefevers pitched five more shutout innings, finishing with seven scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, struck out three and walked one. Kaiden Takahashi-Trader (Longwood) finished with two scoreless innings. He struck out two and hit a batter.
Lincoln Pack (Pensacola State) was 3-for-4 and Zach Paczewski (Radford) was 2-for-4. Wyatt Campbell had given the Braves a 2-0 lead with a homer before the original game was suspended.
In the second game, the Jacks scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth for a 5-4 victory.
Covington’s Braden Durfee (Pasco Hernando) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in the winning run. Durfee was 2-for-3. Jendy Gonzalez (Miami Dade) and Mark Howell (Dayton) each had two base hits.
Clayton Stewart (Francis Marion) picked up the win, allowing no runs on two hits in the final two innings.
Cooper McDaniel (USC-Beaufort) drove in two runs for the Braves.
Charlottesville 5, Harrisonburg 4
The Tom Sox broke a 4-4 tie with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Harrisonburg 5-4.
Jackson Sirois (Maryland) drove in the winning run with a single. Sirois finished the game 3-for-4 and catcher Evan Taveres was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one run batted in.
Starting pitcher Hunter Hyatt (Oregon) pitched 3.2 innings, allowing no runs on one hit. He struck out eight and walked three. Trevor Booten (Auburn) pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to get the save for the Tom Sox.
Josiah Seguin (Chipola) and Jordan Jaffe (Liberty) each drove in a run for the Turks.
Strasburg 17, Winchester 5
Strasburg pounded out 16 hits to defeat the Royals 17-5
Eduardo Castillo (New Orleans), Jack Anderson (JMU) and Paul Osting (Western Illinois) each finished 3-for-4 for the Express. Castillo homered, drove in four runs and scored three times. Anderson scored a run and drove in a run while Osting scored four times and drove in a run. Landon Beaver (UAB), Jake McCarter (High Point) and Logan Duff (Randolph-Macon) each added two hits with Duff driving in four runs. Cristian de los Santos (Seminole State) added three RBIs.
AJ Labrusciano (Rider) was 2-for-2 for the Royals. Jaime Padilla (Shenandoah) and Sean Pokorak (Lynchburg) both homered for Winchester.
Front Royal 5, Woodstock 3
Front Royal defeated North Division leader Woodstock 5-3 to snap a 12-game losing skid.
Colby Seelig (Chestnut Hill) pitched 7.1 innings and allowed one earned run on eight hits. He struck out six and walked one batter.
Grant Gilooly (Dyersburg State) was 3-for-4 with one run batted in to lead the Cardinals. Gabriel Malera, Blake Brookins (Florida) and Dylan Winebrenner (Richmond) each added a pair of base hits.
JT Andersoky (DeSales) and Austin Ford (Folsom Lake) each had two hits for the River Bandits.
Culpeper 8, Waynesboro 5
The Cavaliers stormed back from a 4-0 deficit to defeat Wayneboro 8-5.
Five Cavaliers had two hits including Alejandro Ludeiro (Lipscomb), Kelly Crittenberger (Northwestern), Donovan Mitchell (South Alabama), Keoni Painter (BYU) and Caden Christman (Rutgers). Painter had three RBIs and Christman added two.
Mason Sawyers (Hood) and Owen Winebarger (Elon) blanked Waynesboro over the final four innings. Winebarger did not allow a hit in the final two innings to record the save.
Noah Murray (Virginia) was 3-for-4 and two runs for Waynesboro. Anthony Clavet (Kennesaw State) and Daniel Smith (Gordon College) were both 2-for-4. Clavet and Andrew Ildefonso (FIU) each drove in two runs.
Cole Turner (Embry-Riddle) allowed three hits in two scoreless innings for the Generals. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.
Purcellville 11, New Market 0
Three Purcellville pitchers combined on a two-hitter in an 11-0 win over New Market.
Cannons starter Corey Costello was dominant, allowing two hits in 5.1 innings. He struck out 10 and walked two. Nick Gravel did not allow a hit in 2.2 innings and struck out five. William Ricketts (Bluefield State) pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.
Rex Smith (VCU) was 3-for-3 with a run scored and one run batted in for the Cannons. Anthony Fernandez (St. Bonaventure) and Gerardo Prado (Oklahoma) each added two base hits. Edem Okpattah (Prairie View) hit a three-run homer in his first at-bat of the season. Jackson Micheels (Purdue-Fort Wayne) also homered for the Cannons.
New Market reliever Bryce Pax did not allow a run in 3.1 innings. He gave up four hits and struck out two.
