Staunton 18, Strasburg 7
Staunton belted four homers Sunday night and improved to 3-0 on the season with an 18-7 win at Strasburg.
Jackson Ingram (WVU) belted a grand slam and finished 2-for-5 with five RBIs. Wyatt Campbell (Florida Southern), Wyatt Peifer (JMU) and Ryan Fluharty (USC-Upstate) also homered for the Braves.
Sam Greer (St. Jospeh’s) got the win, pitching four innings and allowing two runs on four hits. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Strasburg also hit four home runs, two by Brett Mosley (Mississippi) and one each by Jacob Payne (Toledo) and Jack Anderson (JMU).
Harrisonburg 6, Winchester 0
The Harrisonburg Turks also moved to 3-0 with a 6-0 victory over Winchester.
Adam Horvath (JMU), Cole Dement (State College of Florida) and Robert Loper (Merrimack) combined on the shutout. Horvath pitched four innings and allowed five hits. Dement did not allow a hit in his four innings and Loper finished with a hitless ninth.
Steele Burd (Clemson) was 2-for 4 with four RBIs to lead the Turks offense and Gavin Groppuso (Wingate) was 2-for-3.
Jaime Padilla (Shenandoah) had two of Winchester’s five hits.
Waynesboro 13, New Market 5
Waynesboro broke a 4-4 tie with eight runs in the seventh inning to defeat New Market 13-5.
The top of the order sparked the Generals as James Green II (Presbyterian) was 4-for-6 with 2 RBIs and Seth Buchanan (VMI) was 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Parker Wight (UNC-Greensboro) was 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs.
Thayer Tavormina (USC-Upstate) picked up the win, allowing one run on two hits in three innings. He struck out four and walked one.
Woodstock 8, Charlottesville 7
Woodstock scored three runs in the top of the ninth to rally for an 8-7 victory over the Charlottesville Tom Sox.
Luke Keister’s (Shenandoah) bases-loaded double in the ninth tied the score and the winning run also crossed the plate on an error by the Tom Sox on the play.
Nazir Mendez (Eastern Kentucky) was 2-for-4 for the River Bandits. Barrett Eldridge (Rice) homered for the second straight game for the River Bandits.
Kyle Langley (JMU) was 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs to lead the Tom Sox. Jackson Sirois (U.Va.), Patrick Niehus (Gardner-Webb), Tanner Schaedel (ODU) and Jett Bristow (U.Va.) each added two hits for Charlottesville.
Purcellville 13, Culpeper 2
Purcellville jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings and rolled to a 13-2 win over Culpeper.
Leadoff hitter Mitsuki Kohno (Johnson U.) was 2-for-3 and scored three runs. Anthony Fernandez (Monroe) was 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs for the winning Cannons.
Connor Hensley (Rollins) was the winning pitcher. He went five innings and allowed two runs on two hits. Hensley struck out eight and walked four.
Cameron Turner (Charlotte) homered for Culpeper.
Front Royal 10, Covington 2
Front Royal broke open a close game with eight runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Covington Lumberjacks 10-2.
Jay Campbell (Florida A&M) was 3-for-4 and Jackson Hill (Texas Arlington) was 2-for-4 to pace the Cardinals offense.
Starting pitcher Jackson Bellhorn (North Florida) pitched four shutout innings, allowing four hits. Aidan Duggan (Cameron U.) got the win, pitching two innings and allowing just one hit.
Willy Mendez (Miami Dade) and Hayden Mileski (New Jersey Tech) each had two hits for the Jacks.
