How it happened: Strasburg won its fourth straight game with an extra-inning 5-4 win over first-place Purcellville. Four Strasburg relievers combined for nine shutout innings while allowing just one base hit.
Express Highlights: Evan Bert (VCU) pitched two innings and allowed one hit. He struck out two and walked one. Matthew Phillips (Towson) worked two innings and did not allow a hit. He struck out three and walked two. Will Hummel (Pittsburgh) pitched two hitless innings with five strikeouts and one walk. Connor Burt (Troy) was the winning pitcher with three hitless innings. He struck out four and walked one. Diego Villescas (New Orleans) was 2-for-4 and Eduardo Castillo (San Jacinto) had a home run and three RBIs.
Cannons Highlights: Mauricio Rodriguez (Rice) pitched two shutout innings with four strikeouts and a pair of walks. Jake Slade (Virginia Tech) and Matthew Albritton (Jacksonville State) each had a run batted in.
Front Royal 5, Woodstock 4
How it happened: Front Royal pushed across a run in the top of the ninth inning to edge Woodstock 5-4.
Cardinals Highlights: Cooper Milford (Georgia) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one run batted in. Thomas White (Miami Dade) had two RBIs. Relievers Sam Stacy, (Southeastern CC), Ryan Sellers (Virginia-Wise) and Chris Campanella (Harford) did not allow a hit in the final five shutout innings. Stacy worked two innings with two strikeouts and one walk. Sellers was the winning pitcher, striking out two in his two innings. Campanella worked the ninth to get the save.
River Bandits Highlights: Stephen West (Florida Memorial) pitched two hitless innings. Kobe White (Stephen F. Austin) was 2-for-3 and Ryan Wilson (Middle Georgia) was 2-for-4 with a run batted in.
New Market 11, Winchester 1
How it happened: New Market scored seven runs in the seventh inning to break open a close game. Chaise Albus (East Stroudsburg) had a run-scoring single and Dalton Turner (Holy Names) drove in two runs during the seventh inning uprising.
Rebels Highlights: Albus was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Connor Reilly (East Stroudsburg) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Sattazahn was the winning pitcher, pitching the final three innings while not allowing a base hit. He struck out three and walked one.
Royals Highlights: Kristian Amaro (North Carolina A&T) was 2-for-3 with a run batted in. Nick Bell (Shenandoah) pitched three innings and allowed one run on four hits. He struck out five.
