Charlottesville 4, Staunton 1
How it happened: Charlottesville scored three runs in the second inning and that proved to be enough to defeat the Staunton Braves 4-1. David Wiley (Wofford) reached on an error and James Taussig (UTSA) walked to start the inning. Cale Stricklin (Auburn) singled home the game’s first run and a double by Sam Mummau (Florida) made it 2-0. Johnnie Lopez made it 2-0 with a sac fly.
Tom Sox Highlights: Starting pitcher Isaac Fix Davidson went five shutout innings to get the win. He allowed just two hits, struck out six and walked two.
Braves Highlights: Hayden Gustavson (State College of Florida) was the only player in the game with more than one hit as he finished 2-for-3.
Harrisonburg 7, Waynesboro 2
How it happened: Harrisonburg scored three runs in the fourth innings to snap a 2-2 tie and the Turks went on to down Waynesboro 7-2. Jacob Green (Seminole State) put the Turks ahead, 4-2, with a two-run single in the fourth. Green scored on a sac fly by Chris Katz (Wake Forest) pushing the margin to 5-2.
Turks Highlights: Cam Nelson (Wake Forest) was 2-for-6 with two runs scored and Jackson Harris (Samford) was 2-for-4. Chad Harvey (Wingate) was the winning pitcher. He pitched 2.2 innings and did not allow a hit. He struck out three batters.
Generals Highlights: Cesar Morillo (St. Andrews) was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Covington 12, Culpeper 5
How it happened: Covington scored two runs in the third to take the lead for good. Jose Alfonso (East Central College) led off the inning with a double and scored on a double by Jackson Toberman (St. Johns River) for a 3-2 Jacks lead. A groundout by Thomas Marsala (Hinds CC) scored a run to make it 4-2. Covington broke the game open with four runs in the fourth to lead 8-2. Marsala and Chenar Brown (Louisiana Monroe) each had a two-run single in the inning.
Lumberjacks Highlights: Toberman was 3-for-6 with a double, homer and three RBIs. Marsala finished the night with three RBIs. Kaleb Henry (Georgia Southwestern) and Brown each finished with two RBIs. Matthew Someillan (Eastern Florida State) was the winning pitcher. He pitched five innings, allowing one earned run on four hits. He struck out three and did not walk a batter,
Cavaliers Highlights: Rett Johnson (South Alabama), Jon Howard (Mt. Olive) and Jackson Rusiecki (North Carolina) each had two base hits. Connor Maryniak (Misericordia) drove in two runs.
