A pair of former Valley Leaguers have been named to the Golden Spikes Mid-Season Watch List.
East Carolina pitcher Trey Yesavage and Miami’s Jason Torres are on the list which features 45 players.
Yesavage, who pitched for the Charlottesville Tom Sox in 2022, is one of the aces for the ECU Pirates staff. He is 7-1 record on the season with a 1.66 ERA. He has 86 strikeouts and just 17 walks in 54.1 innings. Opponents are hitting just .151 this season against the righthander.
Torres played with the Harrisonburg Turks in 2023. The Miami first-baseman is hitting .389 with eight homers and 32 RBIs in 32 games this season for the Hurricanes.
The Golden Spikes Award is given each year by USA Baseball and the Rod Dedeaux Foundation to the top amateur baseball player in the country. It is considered the most prestigious award in amateur baseball.
